Topic: Maintenance Mode

Issue:
If your WordPress website is stuck in maintenance mode and visitors see a “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.” message, it means that the website is undergoing updates, but something interrupted the process and the maintenance mode was not disabled properly.

Solution:
To take your website out of maintenance mode and make it accessible again, follow these steps:

  1. Access the Root Directory:
Connect to your website using FTP or a file manager provided by your hosting provider. Navigate to the root directory of your WordPress installation.
  2. Locate the .maintenance File:
In the root directory, look for a file named .maintenance. This file is automatically created by WordPress when maintenance mode is enabled.
  3. Delete the .maintenance File:
Once you find the .maintenance file, delete it. This action will take your website out of maintenance mode immediately.
  4. Clear Browser Cache:
After removing the .maintenance file, clear your web browser’s cache to ensure that visitors see the updated version of your website.
  5. Check for Errors:
After disabling maintenance mode, visit your website and check for any errors or issues. Ensure that all updates were applied correctly, and the website is functioning as expected.
  6. Avoid Interruptions during Updates:
To prevent future maintenance mode interruptions, ensure that you do not close the browser window or navigate away from the website while updates are being performed. WordPress automatically disables maintenance mode once updates are completed successfully.
